RM on the 22!

Filed under: Routemaster, Special Events, Vehicles — londonbuspageinexile @ 10:03 pm

Had a bit of a surprise today while in the Putney region monitoring the 14 after its extension the short way beyond Tottenham Court Road to Warren Street – its former partner in crime, the 22, hosted an RM!
RM 848 (448 UXS, ex WLT 848), which saw out its service career at Clapton on the 38 and is now privately owned, was doing short runs to Sloane Square in conjunction with an exhibition held by Will’s Art Warehouse, an art gallery at Putney Common. I didn’t know a Routemaster was involved, so I was lucky to be on hand when I saw it emerge from Lower Richmond Road at 3:35.

  1. RM 848 is owned by by Will’s Art Warehouse.

  2. Damn I miss the 22’s RMs. The 22 was my favourite route for that reason as well as it being an less-crowded alternative to the 14. Use to travel the full route. I still do occasionally, but I get the train more often now.

I wonder why they extended the 14 to Warren Street. There are so many traffic jam hotspots along the route I was worried they might eventually cut back the route. I guess it’s better than standing underneath CentrePoint – there’s one place I do try to avoid. The extension is very useful since I can reach the north-east of town easily.

  3. Nice to see an RM out and about, shame it was on the “Magic Roundabout”……round and round and round. Happy Memories.

  4. Wouldnt they have been better off extending the 14 the short extra way to Euston? I cant see a lot of point to the Warren St terminus except for obviously the hospital.

I know congestion can be bad on the route especially at peaks, and Knightsbridge is a particular headache for me on my frequent use of the 9’s

  6. Myself and two friends bought RML 2575 and she is in Dublin and is almost restored to new 2004/5 London General condition, we intend to visit London next year and run her on the 22 and 14 for a day or two to revisit her old haunts, so dont give up there will be some Routemaster running in the area in 2008
