The next book is about halfway done – it’s called The London Titan and is what I hope will be the definitive history of the Leyland Titan’s operations with London Transport and its successors between entry into service (1978, including the two prototypes) and exit (2003, with reference to the later school routes).
Here is T 517 (KYV 517X), which spent its last eight years with Barking and thus fell under Stagecoach East London upon privatisation. It is seen on 24th March 2001, shortly before withdrawal, after which it became one of Blackburn Transport’s fleet (which also included T 1018, the last in service).
The book will come out in time for Cobham 2008, so I have to get it finished by October!

If this one sells enough to let them give me a crack at another one, it’ll be the Metrobus (as you can’t have the T without the M!). I wouldn’t mind doing one on the DMS – and on the L as well (the ECW variety, independent of the fill-ins that came later).

As of today, I’ve reached T1018, the last in service with an ex-LBL operator. As with everything I write, strange feeling of bereavement! Not quite done yet, however – still four more years of post-London stuff to round up. This chapter has become so gargantuan, unfortunately, that it’ll have to be pared down along with the rest of the copy, which is 75% over spec!

Speaking of the “T”, my local outpost of the Stagecoach empire at Stranraer has a couple for school journeys (normally).
Today at 1235 on the town service 365, instead of one of the normal 3 Optare Solo’s allocated I had the pleasure of a ride on former T762 OHV762Y, complete with two doors. Presumably as only one Solo was running ( T plus Merc midi were the others) this was due to annual tests or similar. Good job no wheelchairs were out eh!
